Study: LGBTQ+ employees still face much more discrimination
A large Australian study proves LGBTQ+ employees face more discrimination. Companies have much work ahead.
New research in Australia shows gay, lesbian and transgender people face workplace discrimination. The Diversity Council Australia study is clear: LGBTQ+ employees have significantly more difficulties.
The Inclusion@Work Index 2025–2026 examined work climate for this group. Results are not positive. Many LGBTQ+ employees feel excluded. Some don't dare come out at work. This causes stress, uncertainty and poor conditions. Employers don't always take enough action.
The study points to concrete problems. Many companies lack good discrimination policies. Leadership training is often missing. Employee complaints aren't always taken seriously. Result: LGBTQ+ workers don't feel welcome.
Researchers say clearly: companies must do more. Better policies help. Everyone must know what discrimination is. Employees must report without fearing revenge. Australian employers get concrete recommendations. But will they really act?
