The COC celebrates an anniversary and makes a clear statement. The Netherlands was once a leader in LGBTQ+ rights. But that role is slowly fading away. They want to change this.

It is almost twenty years since the Netherlands allowed same-sex marriage. Many countries have followed us since then. But looking at current global developments, we no longer lead. Other countries are overtaking us on equal rights and gender identity recognition.

The COC calls for new policies to position the Netherlands as progressive. They think of further measures for transgender people. Better protection against discrimination matters too. More inclusivity in schools and workplaces is essential. These are not radical changes, but gradual steps towards inclusion.

Notably: the COC speaks not just to the LGBTQ+ community. They call on everyone to see this as a shared task. The Netherlands has always taken pride in openness. Reclaiming that reputation requires more effort now.
